Our first Choral Camp was held in the
Riverina Region on September 12-14th at Borambola Sport and
Recreation. We had 2 strands to the camp; choral and barbershop.
The choral was taught by Kathryn Derrin from Coffs Harbour and the
barbershop by the very talented Sharon Stanley from Bathurst Panorama
Chorus.
The students had one and half days with
the teachers to learn their songs for the concert on the Friday. The
kids had a fantastic time learning new songs and styles and some of the
older students learnt a tag to sing as a quartet!
On the Friday we held a teacher's
workshop to help teachers in our schools see how easy it is for them to
teach their students how to sing harmonies. Both the teacher and
student classes were well attended and as a result we are now in the
planning stage to do the whole thing all over again next year- only longer!
This was a wonderful 2 days for all,
and above all the kids learnt that they can sing 4 part harmony!
